POSTPARTUM DEPRESSION AMONG WOMEN AND TEENAGE MOTHERS REMAINS A NEGLECTED ISSUE IN PUBLIC HEALTH AND SOCIAL SUPPORT
At a recent dialogue gathering stakeholders highlighted the urgent need for lasting and practical solutions to address postpartum depression which continues to be overlooked despite its serious impact on mothers and families
The event was organised by the local NGO ASK4HELP whose founder and executive director Asinate Korocowiri emphasized the importance of identifying policy and service gaps while working together to develop concrete strategies that can deliver real support and better outcomes
She stressed that women and teenage mothers face unique challenges during the transition to motherhood often without the emotional psychological or social support they need
According to Ms Korocowiri postpartum depression makes these struggles worse yet many women continue to suffer in silence because of stigma limited awareness and lack of access to care
She further noted that families also experience significant challenges as a result often without fully understanding the nature of postpartum depression and its effects
This call to action reinforces the urgent need for more data, resources, and awareness in order to ensure no mother or child is left behind in the journey to recovery and wellbeing.
