EKITI STATE URGES STAKEHOLDERS: “PROTECT OUR CHILDREN’S FUTURE—ENSURE UNIVERSAL HEALTHCARE ACCESS NOW!”

Ado-Ekiti, Nigeria – The Ekiti State Government has issued a passionate plea to stakeholders across all sectors to join forces in safeguarding children’s health by removing barriers to healthcare access, particularly immunization.

The call was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ekiti State Ministry of Information, Mr. Olusesan Alabi, during a critical quarterly meeting of the Social and Behavioural Change (SBC) Committee in Ado-Ekiti. Organized in partnership with UNICEF, the meeting aimed to strengthen child welfare initiatives and combat harmful myths hindering healthcare access.

“A HEALTHY CHILD TODAY MEANS A STRONGER NATION TOMORROW”

Alabi stressed that children’s right to quality healthcare is non-negotiable, warning that misinformation and cultural resistance continue to deny many their basic health protections. “Immunization is not just a medical intervention—it’s a lifeline. Every child deserves the shield of vaccines against preventable diseases,” he declared.

He tasked the SBC Committee with leading a truth campaign, dispelling fears and mobilizing communities to embrace immunization. “We must act as ambassadors—educate, engage, and empower parents to make informed choices,” he urged.

UNICEF EXPERT: “VACCINES SAVE LIVES—DON’T LET MYTHS ENDANGER OUR CHILDREN”

Representing UNICEF’s Social and Behavioural Change Specialist, Mrs. Aderonke Akinola-Adewole, Ekiti State Health Educator Mrs. Olajumoke Oguntoye delivered a powerful message: “Vaccination is a proven shield against deadly diseases like measles, polio, and influenza. It doesn’t just protect individuals—it safeguards entire communities.”

She debunked common vaccine myths, emphasizing that immunization is safe, effective, and vital for public health. “Thanks to vaccines, smallpox is history. With collective effort, we can eliminate more diseases—but only if every child gets their shots,” she stated.

A CALL TO ACTION: RELIGIOUS LEADERS, SCHOOLS, PARENTS—STEP UP!

Oguntoye made a direct appeal to religious leaders, private school owners, and parents: “Your voice matters. Help us spread facts, not fear. Bring your children for vaccination and encourage others to do the same.”

The Time to Act is Now!

  • Vaccines work—they prevent suffering, disability, and death.

  • Herd immunity protects the vulnerable—when most are vaccinated, diseases can’t spread.

  • Misinformation kills—reject myths, trust science.

Ekiti State and UNICEF are calling for united action to ensure no child is left behind. Will you join the movement?
