INTRODUCTION

Cholera remains a major public health threat in Nigeria particularly in states facing challenges such as inadequate sanitation and limited access to clean water Borno State has recently reported a surge in cholera cases following severe flooding This outbreak requires urgent attention to prevent further loss of lives and the spread of the disease

CURRENT SITUATION IN BORNO STATE
According to health officials Borno State has recorded over four hundred and fifty one cases of cholera with several fatalities This rapid increase in cases has been linked to poor water quality and overcrowded living conditions in internally displaced persons camps The government and health organizations are actively working to contain the outbreak through vaccination campaigns and emergency response measures

WHAT IS CHOLERA
Cholera is a bacterial infection caused by Vibrio cholerae which spreads through contaminated food and water It leads to severe diarrhea dehydration and in extreme cases death if not treated promptly The disease thrives in areas with poor sanitation and a lack of clean drinking water making communities with weak infrastructure highly vulnerable

HOW CHOLERA SPREADS
